I am ready to start. How often do I use it?
As a part of your animal’s Circle of Care, your veterinary professional has access to our Clinical Use Guide with over 40 treatment protocols for almost 300 canine and feline diagnoses and clinical applications. Please ask them for specific treatment recommendations before treating your animal. Alternatively, you can have your veterinarian prescribe the use of the loop and we will guide you how often you need the treatment given for your pet's specific condition. Here is a link to the vet prescription pad - VET PRESCRIPTION PAD. If your vet wishes to use their own prescription pad, please ensure we are provided with your contact details (phone and email), the condition and location to be treated and the prescription should read: Assisi tPEMF 2-4 times per day or as needed.

How long does each treatment take?
Each treatment is only 15 minutes long.

How do I know when it's working and when it's finished?
There are two green lights that flash when the loop is working. They will turn off automatically at the end of the minute treatment session. If you are unsure if it is working, you are welcome to send it back into us for testing or you can purchase a test card that you can use to test the loop is working. When the green lights start flashing faster, this means your battery is getting low.

What part of the loop is actually treating my pet?
The treatment field emits from the coil, or in other words, the ‘loop’ of the device. The treatment field fills the area of the Loop itself and extends on both sides, as illustrated. The 20 cm (7.5 inch) Assisi Loop® delivers a clinically effective therapeutic signal to damaged tissue that is positioned within the perimeter of a barrel-shaped treatment zone, as illustrated. The effective treatment zone (ETZ) extends 25 cm (10 inches) above and below the plane of the applicator coil (i.e. 50 cm or 20 inches, from end-to-end). The diameter of the ETZ is 25 cm (10 inches) at its widest point around the applicator coil and 20 cm (7.5″) at its ends. The ETZ for the 10 cm (4 inch) Loop extends 12.5 cm (5 inches) above and below the plane of the applicator coil. The diameter of the zone is also 12.5 cm (5 inches) at its wides point around the applicator coil.
The position of the battery pack has no effect on treatment. Simply center the Loop over the area of the condition for optimum positioning.

How do I make sure it stays in the right place?
Keeping your pet in your lap or in a contained area can be helpful in ensuring the full treatment is completed. If you feel you may not have the time or availability to supervise your pet, consider purchasing the Assisi LOOP-AID, an accessory for the Assisi Loop that was designed to assist with compliance of veterinary instructions, provide convenience for the pet owner, and enhance mobility for the pet during treatment.
Please note that if you plan to use a metal crate for treatment, the metal can diminish the impact of the treatment. While it is not dangerous, it will reduce the dose received. A crate that has a wide wire mesh will not reduce dosing significantly, but a solid metal piece could. Arranging the treatment in the crate so the Loop is on top of the pet, rather than against the crate and pet will reduce any interference. You may want to add an additional session to compensate for any reduced efficacy. Similarly, using the Loop in a bed with metal coils, or metal brace will not cause any harm, although it may reduce the dose the pet receives.
If in a metal crate, 4-5 inches from the metal, as possible. You may choose to place a thick pad in the kennel or on the bed to allow for this distance.

Can I still give my pet their daily medications. Can they have acupuncture and/or laser treatments?
Yes! The Assisi Loop is an ideal adjunct therapy, meaning it can be used with other forms of treatment – even the very same day. However, given that the Loop and other treatment options have different mechanisms of action, we recommend that you allow 2 hours between treatments so your pet receives the full benefit of each modality.

How long will the loop last?
The Assisi Loop 2.0 Manual offers a minimum of 150 x 15-minute treatments when used correctly.
The life of the Loop depends on the battery. You must allow the battery to recharge for 2 hrs between each 15 minute treatment to get the minimum of 150 treatments. It often lasts longer than 150 treatments. At this time, there is no way to recharge or replace the battery. One Assisi Loop can last anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 months, depending on the condition being treated and the number of treatments required per day.

Can my pet feel it?
The Assisi Loop can markedly increase blood flow and tissue oxygenation, which improves the overall tissue health and reduces pain associated with inflammation. We often hear reports from pet owners that their animal relaxes as soon as they start their treatments with the Loop. With the many healing benefits that the Loop offers, this is not surprising.
Some animals will notice the increased blood flow because with increased circulation there is often a warming or tingling sensation. This is subtle, however, and many animals won't appear to react at all. There have been some reports of twitching as a physical reaction to the tPEMF™ therapy. This is very rare and is most likely to occur with animals that have had some type of long-term degenerative or chronic condition. Their condition may have resulted in extreme ischemia--a decrease in the blood supply to a bodily organ, tissue, or part caused by constriction or obstruction of the blood vessels. If the area is ischemic, then the introduction of increased blood flow may cause a reaction in the body such as feeling of warmth, tingling and, in extreme cases, twitching.
As such, we generally recommend that you reduce the treatment duration to 5 minutes rather than 15 if your pet seems to be sensitive to the Loop. Continue at the reduced duration until the twitching is gone and the area has assimilated to the increased blood flow.

Can the Loop be used on a pet with a pacemaker or other implanted medical electronic devices?
The FDA recommends against using the human version of the Loop over tissue known to contain implanted electrical leads, such as pacemakers. As such, we recommend against applying the Loop to animals who have pacemakers or using this device if you are a pet owner with a pacemaker or other implanted medical device. If you choose to use the assisi loop while acknowledging you have an implant or other implanted medical device, you accept risk to your person. We highly recommend not using the loop in this situation, and asking someone else to treat your pet.

Can the Loop be used over metal implants in my pet?
Yes. There are no magnetic induction effects from the Loop’s signal on veterinary surgical implants, which are made of non-magnetic materials, and the size of veterinary implants are not sufficient to significantly distract, weaken or otherwise adversely affect the therapeutic effect of the Loop’s signal.

Can the Loop be used on an animal that has cancer?
Unlike diathermy, targeted pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (tPEMF) has no contraindication for the treatment of patients with cancer or for post-cancer surgical healing. To the contrary, much of the human clinical trial work that has been done has been for post-mastectomy reconstruction patients. There is a misconception about angiogenesis and cancer, in part due to the development of 'antiangiogenic' therapies in oncology. tPEMF has a pro-angiogenic effect but this is different from the angiogenesis of tumors. The angiogenic activity is not normal in tumors as the blood vessels, called tortuous vessels, are poorly formed. tPEMF delivered via the Assisi Loop 2.0 accelerates ongoing anti-inflammatory processes, one outcome of which is the healthy growth of new blood vessels and normal tissue regeneration. tPEMF has been used in peer-reviewed human clinical trials on patients undergoing reconstructive surgery post-cancer with no adverse effects of any kind (Rohde et al., Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery 2012). FDA has reviewed these studies and the FDA clearance for the human product does not carry a contraindication for treating cancer sites.
While not a contraindication as recognized by the FDA, we recommend against using the Assisi Loop over the tumor site of hemangiosarcoma out of abundance of precaution. The Assisi Loop can be used on a patient with hemangiosarcoma if the area of the condition is distant from the area of the tumor, or can be used for palliative care.

Why can't the battery be replaced or recharged?
There is a medical and a regulatory basis for the Loop’s sealed case. As a condition for clearing the Loop as a medical device, the FDA required that it be able to deliver its patented, therapeutic waveform consistently over its entire design life of 150 treatments. Sealing all of its operating components inside the case—the applicator connections to the circuit board, signal generator, microprocessor, power supply and the battery—provided the FDA with the required assurance of signal integrity. Breaking the case seal for any reason renders the device non-compliant with the conditions of its 510(k) Clearance.

Why have I been sent a tracking sheet?
This is to help you keep track of how many treatments you have given your pet and how often. It also provides a way to ensure you don't use your loop more often that every 2 hours. Loops used more often than every 2 hours, void their warranty and the minimum 150 treatment claim. Using the loop more often than every 2 hours may drastically reduce the life of the battery - in some cases back down to only 50 treatments.

What happens if I turn the loop on and my pet walks away?
Don't turn it off if this happens. Every time you turn the power button on and off, it counts as one treatment and you need to leave the device for 2 hrs before using it again. Instead, please leave it on and follow your pet, ask them to sit/stand still again and place the loop back over the treatment area.
