Can my pet use his/her rear legs in the wheelchair?

Yes, we encourage your dog to use his/her rear legs to maintain muscle mass and to get exercise. If the rear legs are paralyzed, using the stirrups will keep the dog's legs from dragging.
Conditions Suitable For Wheelchair Use

Walkin' Wheels® is changing lives. A wheelchair designed specifically for dogs can help your best friend run and play again, go to the bathroom, get the exercise he (or she) needs, and live a happy, healthy life.

  • Severe Osteoarthritis – dogs in wheelchairs with osteoarthritis may experience increased mobility, range of motion, decrease inflammation, and a decreased need for medication.
  • Back injuries – increased muscle support to prevent re-injury, manage pain and inflammation. For additional back support, a "Belly Belt" is used.
  • Spinal injuries/intervertebral disk disease –decreased back muscle spasticity.
  • Fibrocartilagenous embolism (FCE) – can hasten recovery, improve coordination
  • Degenerative myelopathy (DM) – helps to maintain muscle function and prolong life
  • Balance disorders – improves balance and coordination, decrease injury. The wheels can be adjusted so the dog is using his legs but, in the event of a spasm, will not fall.

How do I measure my dog?

There are three sets of information we need you to send us in the order request please:

1) Fold of Flank The dog wheelchair is adjustable so we the height of the dog (Called "Fold of Flank to Ground"). This will allow us to determine the correct size wheel. The measurement doesn't need to be exact. If you're off by a few centimeters it will adjust. Do not straighten the leg to take this measurement. It must be relaxed like it would be if your dog was standing.

2) Armpit to rump length: Stand you dog still and measure from behind their foreleg (in the armpit) to back of their thigh. Like in the picture.

3) Weight and breed.
