Help'Em Up Harness
Choosing The Right Harness Size
Determining the proper size of a dog support harness for your dog is based on two things – weight and dimensions. Weight gets us into the ballpark and the dimensions for neck, chest and waist give us a more specific determination. Because each dog is unique, we’ve designed the dog support harness to provide as much flexibility as possible.
While some dogs gain weight with age, others may slim down. Certain hip and spine issues can cause the chest of dogs to deepen while their hips and waist become narrower. With the four dog lifting harnesses currently offered, you should be able to get a very good fit for virtually any dog from 3.6kg to 100kg.
In some cases, we may require putting a Large or Extra Large front half together with the next size down in Hip Lift; we are happy to put the two together to provide a more optimal fit.

Choosing The Correct Style Hip Lift The Conventional Hip Lift The best fit for all females and most males The conventional version of our dog lifting harness by Blue Dog Designs has a solid belly band and works very well for all female dogs and the majority of male dogs. It has two fasteners on the belly band, for easier centering and padded support straps. For most male dogs, the penis comes out forward of the belly band, allowing them to urinate freely. We recommend this version for most dogs. The pelvic pad is made of neoprene and covered with fleece. It should be positioned under the pelvic plate, to provide additional support for the hips and spine. The U-Band Hip Lift The ultimate dog support harness for male dogs whose penis is located farther back. The U-shaped opening in the belly band provides clearance for those male dogs who may be hindered from urinating by the conventional version. These dogs have a penis that is located further back between their hind legs. The U-shaped opening helps them to urinate freely. To measure what your dog needs. Take a 1.5in piece of fabric or belt and place it directly in front of your dogs thighs when he is standing. Is the fabric/belt covering his prepuce opening? If it is, or if it is within an inch of his prepuce opening, then we recommend the U-band style. If his prepuce opening is well clear of the fabric/belt, we recommend the conventional harness The armature used to create this opening is padded, but even so we do not recommend letting dogs lay in the harness for extended periods of time. Note: Dog harnesses are sold as a front & back combination. We do not recommend using the Hip Lift by itself as it may slide off, possibly causing injury to your dog. Also, do not leave it on your dog for over-extended lengths of time. Use it as needed and then when possible – remove. |
Choosing A Walking Accessory
These are customised dog walking accessories for the Help ‘Em Up Harness: the Help ‘Em Up Walking Handle (one size) and the Help ‘Em Up Walking Leash/Shoulder Straps (2 sizes: M/L or XL) that provide additional walking assistance and extra leverage for owners of dogs using the Help Em Up Harness.
Because many dogs have different issues, the handle, leash and shoulder strap can all be hooked onto the harness in varying ways where the dog needs the most support. The walking accessories provide more leverage for lifting the bigger dogs than using just the elevated handles, or extra leverage when walking your dog.
The Help ‘Em Up Walking Handle works well on all harness sizes and can attach to either the hip-lift handle to especially help dogs with hip issues, or the front shoulder strap, or both. The handle has a unique pivoting feature that allows the handle to swivel, providing greater manoeuvrability as a walking or lifting accessory for dogs. The Handle works well with on all harness sizes (S, M, L) and on the hip-lift for dogs using the XL harness.
The Help ‘Em Up Walking Leash is adjustable and used for walking, but also doubles as a shoulder strap for extra leverage when lifting and/or walking with bigger dogs. The walking leash/shoulder strap works well with dogs using the medium, large and extra-large Help ‘Em Up Harness.
