Why should I consider taking my dog's boots off inside?

Dogs sweat through their paw pads.  Covering a pet's paw with a non-breathable bootie for a long time can lead to:
  • moisture build-up around the paw
  • chafing, abrasions, skin breakdown
  • infection
If your dog needs to wear their boot for more than 4 hours at a time, consider sprinkling an anti-chaffing powder inside the boot before placing it on your dog.

If you are using the boot for prolonged periods to protect wounds/cuts, please take the boot off intermittently to check the skin under the foot and in and around the toes. Also, remember to leave it off at times under your direct supervision to allow their foot some time to dry.  If your dog has wounds/cuts and you want to apply an anti-chaffing powder - please speak to your veterinarian first.

If you are looking for a long term indoor solution to your dog's sore feet, ask us about Thera-Paw Cushy Paw Slippers.  The slippers are made of fleece and have a thick cushioned inner sole.  They allow the paw to breathe and can be left on throughout the day while the pet is indoors. Slippers are more padded than the boots but not durable for outside use.   Also, not suitable for dogs needing traction/slipping support or those dogs that knuckle/drag their feet.  Contact us if you would like size and price information at info@reddogrehab.co.nz

Thera-Paw Modifications & Customisation

Thera-Paw boots come in different sizes, but as we know, no matter how many sizes are offered, some pets will require modifications or customisation.

Dogs vary in shape and size more than any other mammal in the world.  So boots will not fit the same for a 30kg greyhound vs a 30kg Basset Hound.  Unlike other pet product companies, Thera-Paw USA is able to customise and modify most products.  Thera-Paw USA has provided this service for over 15 years.  During this time, they have worked with hunting dogs, military dogs, search & rescue dogs, and family pets.  Customisation does incur additional fees.  We have made a quick summary of some of the common customisations - Click here to view.  If you feel your pet needs customised help, please contact us for further information.
